zandbank is an arts criticism platform rooted in Groningen, NL - organised by Dinnis van Dijken and Michiel Teeuw. We believe in slow reflection, in sustainable criticism, and the power of extensive contemplations and considerations - and wish to move away from "actuality" and rushed writings.
In 2022 and 2023 we did archival research in SIGN projectspace, reviewing artistic writings from the first 10 years of SIGN. We curated a selection [1: 1988-1993] [2: 1993-1999] of the various exhibition texts, interviews, artist statements and independent publications we found in the archive.
4 Feb 2024 | In addition to this online publication, we invited the artists to return to SIGN, and show both their old work and recent work. Everything came together in a one-day exhibition with an archival reading table, a website display and several talks with the artists.
At the moment, we are researching SIGN's archive of 1999-2009.
